The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Developer to Rescue Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Poor Response

The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a more defined direction.

The president expressed that the developers is now reimagining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to address gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Hires

This announcement echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the complete text from Ismailer's announcement:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative developers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that relationship to persist.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last fall’s the game testing phase was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a clearer identity.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to consideration and revamped the title with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to achieve its promise to our fans.

The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the remarkable progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of the team. After a period of conversations, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.

His management and background in the PVP shooter field is extensive, having dedicated the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in welcoming Ben next week. We are all looking forward to persist observing the progress of the game in the time to come.

David

Experience of the New Head

Brinkman currently serves in the position of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman previously was employed at Treyarch and Activision in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Details and Vision

Project Ethos was revealed in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, the developers portrayed the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative evolution on the category."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the description states. "Challenge the opponents with fresh skills, challenges, and obstacles that change every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Alternatively go big, put it on the line, and hope your team can earn top ranking? The option is yours."

Project Ethos lacks an confirmed debut schedule or supported systems, but fans can anticipate further news as production progresses.
